37th Annual Alzheimer's Disease Management and Research Symposium

The 37th Annual Alzheimer's Disease Management and Research Symposium will discuss topics such as the diagnosis and management of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, as well as pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options, symptom management, the latest advancements in disease and treatment research, and strategies to assist families in providing care.

1. Identify sign and symptoms of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias used to make a differential diagnosis, and learn of the genetic risks and gene mutations in dementia.
2. Discuss current research trends in the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, both pharmaceutical and non pharmaceutical treatment options, and therapeutic breakthroughs in neurodegenerative disease treatment.
3. Discuss recent advances in neuro-imaging biomarker research and recognize associations between sleep, aging, and neurodegeneration.
4. Discuss the benefits of music in engagement with persons in all stages of the dementia diagnosis.
5. Discuss diagnosis and management or early onset Alzheimer's disease and other more rare forms of cognitive impairment.
6. Discuss engagement strategies for individuals with early stage dementia.
7. Discuss emerging diagnostic tools for differentiating types of dementias, and emerging technologies for intervention.

East Tennessee State University College of Nursing is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Total hours for both days: 10 hours, 50 minutes (10.50 CH) continuing nursing education contact hours broken down as follows: Thursday, October 5 is 5 hours, 45 minutes (5.75 CH) and Friday, October 6 is 4 hours, 15 minutes (4.75 CH).
