Mike Bourassa, DPT
Associate Professor, Program Director for the Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Programs, East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN
Dr. Bourassa serves as the East Tennessee State University residency and fellowship program director and as a clinical assistant professor within the DPT program. His main responsibilities include program development, management, mentoring, and teaching within varying areas of musculoskeletal physical therapy.
In addition to those roles, he has been an invited lecturer at several conferences, adjunct faculty at several universities and programs and has organized several continuing education courses in the US and internationally. He serves in many professional service roles including as AAOMPT’s membership chair, Academic Clinical Faculty Nominating committee member and as a site reviewer for Residency and Fellowship Physical Therapy Programs.

Kerry Ferguson, E-RYT, YACEP, certified yoga school lead trainer, HHP, CNC, cMT
Holistic Health Practitioner
Yoga Tree, Johnson City, TN
 Kerry has been practicing Yoga for 27 years, teaching for 22 years. Her classes are filled with breath work (pranayama), creative sequences, stillness and meditation. hands-on assists, along with a playful, cheerful attitude. Kerry incorporates yogic philosophy woven into the cueing of yoga postures and is very aware of individual needs within a yoga session. Kerry has a bachelor’s degree in nutrition. She also graduated from The School of Healing Arts, in San Diego, CA, with a certificate in Massage Therapy as well as a certificate in Whole Foods Nutritional Counseling. Kerry has a certificate in Herbal studies from The Self Heal School in San Diego, CA. Kerry lived in New Zealand for a year studying at Wellpark College and became a Holistic Health Practitioner. Kerry is also a Waldorf teacher and taught 1st grade at a Waldorf charter school, the study of anthroposophy and works of Rudolf Steiner infusing into her classes.  Kerry has a passion for travel and meeting new people, experiencing life firsthand and sharing the knowledge she has learned along the way.  

Scott Fitzpatrick, DACM, Dipl. O.M., RES
Specialist in nonpharmacologic pain management and herbal medicines.
East Tennessee Acupuncture Clinic, Kingsport, TN
Mr. Fitzpatrick is the owner and acupuncturist of East Tennessee Acupuncture Clinic. He is also a graduate of the American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine located in Houston, TX. He also attended Baylor College of Medicine’s Sports Institute and earned national certification as a rehabilitative exercise specialist. Fitzpatrick is board certified by the NCCAOM and is credentialed to practice at Holston Valley Hospital.

Neal Hughes, MDiv, MA, LSPE

Licensed Senior Psychological Examiner and Board Certified Counselor

Mr. Hughes has been a practicing psychotherapist since 1989 when he graduated with a master’s in clinical psychology from East Tennessee State University. Prior to this he acquired a BA in Religion from Asbury College (now Asbury University) and a M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary with a specialized curriculum in historical theology. Counseling is directed toward identifying, developing, and marshaling internal and external resources to create an environment that does not readily support emotional distress and self-defeating patterns and instead develops greater ability to manage emotional distress, resolve conflicts, overcome obstacles, and enhance contentment and productivity. Continuing education helps him keep up to date on the latest research in this growing field. He has presented on many different mental health topics including the integration of psychological and neurological functions in this region as well as in Minneapolis, MN and Seattle, WA. The use of mindfulness-based interventions and the technical eclecticism of Multi-Modal Behavior Therapy on the foundation of psychology and neuroscience enable him to meet the needs of a wide variety of clients and their problems.

 Gigi Miranda, MD

Assistant Professor, Department of Family Medicine
East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN
Dr. Miranda was born and raised in Wise, Virginia, and completed her Family Medicine Residency at Bristol Family Medicine in 2017. She enjoys travel and her studies have led her across the nation and internationally. She received an undergraduate degree in Biology from Boston College, in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, and a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from California State University, East Bay in Hayward, California. While in California she worked as the Assistant Athletic Trainer, at California State University, East Bay, working mostly with women’s basketball, volleyball, and water polo. She then headed to the Philippines and received her Medical Degree from the University of the East, Ramon Magsaysay Medical Center, near Manila. Living, traveling and studying in the Philippines created her foundation of Integrative Medicine. She learned acupuncture and saw the fundamental importance of nutrition, physical activity, spirituality, and environment for one’s health. Upon returning to the States and before her Family Medicine residency, she completed a course for Medical Acupuncture at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. After residency, she worked at The Ohio State University Integrative Medicine Clinic.  She currently practices Integrative Medicine, looking at a patient’s nutrition habits, daily physical activity, sleep patterns, and daily stressors and integrate different modalities from acupuncture, meditation, nutrition, and exercise prescription to maximize patient health.
