This conference meets both VA and TN Prescribing Practices Requirement and the MATE Act Requirement

The opioid overdose and stimulant use epidemic is well documented nationally and regionally. The Centers for Disease Control attribute poor prescribing by healthcare providers to be a key problem that needs to be addressed. Healthcare providers receive little education on management of pain or addition in professional didactic or residency training. There is a need for this education to help improve learning deficits, help reduce unmet treatment needs and opioid-related overdose deaths across America.and to promote safer prescribing of controlled substances.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (6.00 hours), ACPE Contact Hour(s) (6.00 hours), ANCC Contact Hour(s) (6.25 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (6.00 hours), Pharmacology (6.00 hours)

1. Describe substance use disorders and the disease of addiction using a biopsychosocial model, including the role of adverse childhood experiences.
2. Discuss the various stimulants that are misused, and recent trends regarding their misuse.
3. Describe the treatment approaches used by medical and mental health professionals to treat patients/clients with a stimulant use disorder.
4. Learn how to have meaningful conversations with adolescents and young adults about stimulant and cannabis use.
5. Evaluate the role of forensic toxicology to address cause of death in suspected overdoses and contribution to motor vehicle accidents.

 

Quillen College of Medicine, East Tennessee State University, designates this activity for a maximum of 6.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits^TM . Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
