Systematic Review Basics

This class will go over several review types (rapid, systematic, and scoping) with a discussion on reporting guidelines (PRISMA) and different critical appraisal methods, such as GRADE. It will provide access to a toolkit that will include handouts on question formation, database choice, team members and their expectations, appraisal tools, software recommended, and journal selection tools. The intended purpose of this class and toolkit is to provide a template for subject matter experts and searching experts (librarians) to help facilitate successful communication and expectations of the review process. The hope is that, if steps are followed, team members may produce a publishable result with minimal wasted effort. We may provide a post-test for attendees that reinforces main points of the session should this be required/recommended for CME purposes.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (1.50 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (1.50 hours)

1. Identify and understand the steps required to create a quality review article.
2. Identify appropriate team members required to produce a quality review.
3. Identify software and related tools recommended for systematic review production.
4. Understand PRISMA standards and recommendations.
5. Identify appropriate article appraisal tools depending on review type and requirements and recommendations.

Cancellations received in writing no less than 20 days before the course will be refunded, less a 20% administrative fee. No refunds will be made on cancellations received after that date. Please send cancellation requests to East Tennessee State [email protected].
