Content in this Online Course was originally presented at the 27th Annual Louis A. Cancellaro Primary Care conference - April 1-4, 2024. 

Presentations in this module focus on strategies primary care providers can use to help patients with pain management and includes required updates on prescribing guidelines and regulations.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Define pain and it's components
  2. Describe the biopsychosocial model and stepped care approach for treating chronic pain and construct individualized pain care plans utilizing a multimodal approach
  3. Review pharmacotherapy approaches to treat common neuropathic nociceptive pain conditions and summarize chronic opioids current place in therapy using the most recent clinical practice guidelines
  4. Describe how biological, psychological, and social factors contribute to pain perception
  5. Learn to apply practical, evidence-based strategies like CBT and mindfulness to empower patients in pain management, reducing reliance on medication
  6. Describe the scope of the opioid crisis and identify CDC and TN guidelines and legislation for the prescribing of opioids for pain
