Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Prepare patient care plans to include appropriate screenings and evaluations to identify patients with cardiovascular risks and disease.
  2. Describe and apply up-to-date evidenced-based diagnostic tools and criteria to help identify appropriate patients requiring timely referral to a specialist.
  3. Review and describe current evidence-based outpatient medical management guidelines and treatment options/strategies for patients with common/chronic cardiovascular risk factors and diseases.
  4. Identify new and emerging clinical treatment and technological advances for medically managing a variety of cardiovascular diseases both in outpatient setting and in coordination with other specialists as appropriate.
  5. Discuss and summarize current best practices in lipid treatment modalities, antiplatelet regimens, use of stents and hypertension management.
  6. Outline and review current evidence-based treatment, therapy options, and strategies for medically managing atrial fibrillation, heart failure, peripheral artery disease, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and hypertension.
  7. Define, compare, and discuss the various cardiac imaging and diagnostic tests and tools available to diagnose cardiovascular risks and diseases, including indications for ordering the most appropriate test(s), guidelines for interpretation of results, and clinical indicators to help identify those patients requiring a timely referral to a specialist in order to impact overall patient outcome.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University and CHI Memorial Health System. Quillen College of Medicine, East Tennessee State University, is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

TPCE is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education (0575-9999-24-006-L01-P), to those who participate in all sessions and complete the online activities required to claim credit. A participant code will be made available at the completion of the day for submission of ACPE credits.

ASRT Credit: This activity is approved for 4.25 Category A CEU’s by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.

Occupational Therapy: This course is approved for the awarding of up to 6.25 contact hours (0.625 CE Units) to occupational therapists.

Physical Therapy: This activity has been approved for PT CEU Credit.

Social Work Credit: In order to claim NASW credits, the attendee will be provided an attendance certificate to submit to NASW along with a copy of the activity syllabus.
