Substance Use Among Justice-Involved Populations (This activity meets the content requirements of the MATE Act)

Presented Kelly Moore, PhD on 2/8/23 for I AM (Interdisciplinary Addiction Medicine) ECHO. Presentation includes mechanisms (from substance use to crime), substance use after release from incarceration, substance use treatment for justice-involved populations, impacts of stigma, common stereotypes about substance use and criminal involvement, barriers to treatment in the legal system, motivation for treatment, and effective SUD treatments for justice-involved populations.

1. Identify the interaction between substance use and criminal legal system involvement.
2. Learn evidence-based approaches to treat substance use with justice-involved clients and barriers to using these approaches.
