Overview

Presented Dr. Joyce Troxler, Director of Quillen College of Medicine’s Addiction Fellowship, on 2/22/23 for I AM (Interdisciplinary Addiction Medicine) ECHO. Presentation includes the scope of the opioid use disorder problem, MAT in the Emergency Department, Buprenorphine formulations and mechanism of action, and advantages and disadvantages of Buprenorphine in the treatment of opioid use disorder. 

This activity meets the content requirements of the MATE Act.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Review addiction identification and evidence-based treatments.
  2. Discuss the pharmacology of opioids as it relates to treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) patients.
  3. Discuss other approved antagonist and agonist medications to treat OUD.
  4. Utilize evidence-based resources to ensure providers have the confidence to prescribe buprenorphine for patients with OUD.
