Karen Schetzina, MD, MPH, FAAP, is a board-certified general pediatrician, Professor, and Vice Chair of Academic Pediatrics in the East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Department of Pediatrics. She completed her undergraduate, MPH in Epidemiology, and MD degrees from the University of North Carolina and her pediatric residency training at Stanford. She is the founding director of the ETSU Child and Family Health Institute. She serves as medical director of the Niswonger Children’s Hospital Children’s Resources Center and Pediatric Care Navigation program. She is immediate past chair of the STRONG Accountable Care Community Leadership Council and is current co-chair of its Ready from the Start Regional Steering Committee. She serves on the board of the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics as membership chair. She also serves as state infant medical director for the Tennessee Initiative for Perinatal Quality Care. She represents Tennessee as a chapter breastfeeding coordinator and coordinator for the PROS (Pediatric Research in Office Settings) Network for the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Schetzina is the project director of three current grants and contracts totally over $3 million to support team-based, multidisciplinary clinical care and outreach to children and families in the Appalachian Highlands region aimed at improving health, development, and well-being.
